At St Anne’s we aim to provide an opening to other cultures and foster pupils’ curiosity of the world. To provide a foundation for learning further languages and equip pupils to study and work in other countries.
The formal teaching of Spanish starts in Key Stage 2. The curriculum is delivered by a specialist language assistant for Year 5 and 6 pupils and class teachers for Year 3 and 4 pupils, through a range of games, songs and activities, allowing the children to develop skills in reading, writing, listening and responding. During the Summer Term Year 2 pupils will explore patterns and sounds of language through songs and rhymes in preparation for their learning in Year 3.
The learning of a foreign language provides a valuable educational, social and cultural experience for our pupils. It helps them to develop their ability to communicate and extends their knowledge of how language works. Which can also be of great benefit to them in other areas of the curriculum. We want to nurture a lifelong passion and curiosity for languages and to consolidate the skills for future language learning.
